Dr. Carmen Sanz, MD is the Clinical Director at the Serenity Springs Men’s Residential Program. Dr. Sanz has over 35 years of experience in psychiatry, working at both private and state practices. Carmen studied medicine and psychiatry in Puerto Rico where she grew up.

“Psychiatry is in my blood, both of my parents were psychiatrists and I followed their path.”

Dr. Sanz has occupied an administrative position as the President of the Puerto Rico Psychiatric Association in the United States, since 2016. She has been practicing in a private practice where she works and evaluates mental and behavioral health conditions of adults. Carmen knows has been dealing with addiction along with behavioral health for many years, she treated the homeless population in Puerto Rico for ten years. Dr. Sanz was also a psychiatrist of seventeen different group homes for eight years and was the Medical Director of a 65-bed nursing home for ten years. Carmen started as a psychiatrist at Serenity Springs Recovery Center in June of 2019, where she now evealuates substance use disorder and mental health conditions. She is an outstanding psychiatrist and an even better person. She truly has a profound understanding of people from all walks of life, making her the perfect fit for our medical staff and treatment team.

Dr. Edda Casanova, MD

Edda is the Medical Director for Serenity Springs Recovery Center. She has been off and on with Serenity Springs since it was founded in 2011. She has always been an outstanding director and therapist and is certainly one of our best employees at Serenity Springs. Her work ethic is second-to-none and she is the epitome of a great employee and has a big heart. She is the perfect blend for our model of addiction recovery!

Dr. Casanova, a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, provides psychiatric services for all clients and conducts weekly treatment team meetings. Dr. Casanova grew up in Puerto Rico and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Puerto Rico in 1968 and went on to earn her Doctorate in Medicine from the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine or Escuela de Medicina San Juan Bautista (en Español). In 1983, she completed her psychiatry residency at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 1985. Since 1988 she has actively been practicing medicine in a variety of settings including New York, Virginia, and Florida.
